I love using magazine pages!
Receiving a letter is an incredible thing. This envelope (above), designed by my friend Andrea, was waiting for me after a long day at Nipissing University. The mailbox was glowing with a bright and uplifting piece of art. I grabbed it, shielded it from the rain, did a little dance, and went inside to brew a pot of tea. Drinking tea while reading and writing letters always adds to the experience. Andrea is an Outdoor Education teacher, which definitely comes across in these nature-based marker drawings.
After opening the letter (VERY carefully) I was surprised to see more art! This "psychedelic owl" is my new best friend. I'm so impressed with this letter. An envelope like this one bumps Andrea up to the top of my "write soon" list. Awesome.
Returning to North Bay after our 6 week teaching practicums, we found a big pile of letters from friends and family. What an amazing way to be welcomed back home after some time in the city. We've included a few of the more creative envelopes:
A letter written on half a Canadian flag! The other half was used for a different letter. Calder's creativity never ceases to amaze me. He deeply describes his love of the outdoors, and this country, i think of the act as odd and beautiful patriotism, reminding me how much i too love this land.
Great kiwi drawing Merron!
Amanda! Very abstract. We love it.
Calder, I like how you used a page from our book for this one! Very creative.
A wicked double-sided envelope design from brother to sister!
Thanks bro.
When i opened this weighted card i quickly realized there was a scrambled message written with small magnets, (not sure if it was an intentional puzzle or if the magnets scrambled in their travel.
I Then realized the shape of the card was a fridge!
what a hilarious request, and message, thanks Greg!
My first magnetic letter!
